RCS (Rich Communication Services) chats are an upgraded messaging experience that provide a more dynamic and secure conversation than SMS or MMS. RCS is a messaging protocol for Android devices that is an alternative to SMS and more closely matches the features available in Apples iMessage, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger. RCS chats offer a range of features, including:
- Typing indicators: Show when someone is typing.
- Read receipts: Show when someone has read your message.
- High-quality media: You can share files and high-resolution photos.
- Group chat: You can have live chats that include multimedia with businesses and other users.
- Location sharing: You can share your location with other users.
When you use RCS chats, your messages are sent with the Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol over Wi-Fi and mobile data. RCS chats will be turned on only when all the participants in a conversation have RCS. RCS chats are provided by Google or your mobile carrier. If your carrier and device aren’t automatically set up for RCS chats, you may be offered RCS chats. RCS messages youve sent are darker blue than SMS or MMS messages.
