Shadowless Pokémon cards are the earliest print runs of the original Base Set released in 1999 by Wizards of the Coast under the Pokémon Trading Card Game. They are called "shadowless" because there was no drop shadow underneath the art box on the right side of the card. The drop shadow effect is somewhat subtle, so another way to tell is that normal cards will have 1995, 96, and 98 at the bottom while shadowless cards have 1995, 96, 98, and 99. Shadowless cards are from the second print run of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. They are highly sought after by collectors because of their scarcity and rarity, and they are considerably more valuable than the Unlimited Base Set that was produced shortly after. All 1st Edition cards are shadowless, except for the 1st Edition Base Set Machamp, which was always printed with the 1st Edition stamp, whether it was shadowless or not.
