Liver cancer may not have any symptoms in the early stages, or they might be hard to spot. However, when signs and symptoms do appear, they may include:
- Losing weight without trying
- Loss of appetite
- Upper abdominal pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- General weakness and fatigue
- Abdominal swelling
- Feeling very full after a small meal
- An enlarged liver, felt as fullness under the ribs on the right side
- An enlarged spleen, felt as fullness under the ribs on the left side
- Pain in the abdomen (belly) or near the right shoulder blade
- Swelling or fluid build-up in the abdomen (belly)
- Itching
- Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
- Fever
- Enlarged veins on the abdomen that can be seen through the skin
- Abnormal bruising or bleeding
Its important to note that having one or more of these symptoms does not necessarily mean that a person has liver cancer. Many of these symptoms can be caused by other conditions. However, if a person experiences any of these symptoms, its important to have them checked by a doctor so that the cause can be found and treated, if needed.
