STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and refers to any subjects that fall under these four disciplines. The term was coined while designing education policies to improve competitiveness in science and technology development. STEM courses are the most talked-about subject areas in higher education, and governments and universities around the world have made attracting students to STEM courses a priority. STEM courses comprise primarily of the following four STEM subjects:

• Science: This is composed of natural sciences like biology and chemistry and formal sciences like mathematics and statistics.
• Technology: This includes computer science, information technology, and other technology-related disciplines.
• Engineering: This includes aerospace, civil, electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineering, among others.
• Mathematics: This includes arithmetic, geometry, algebra, and applied mathematics.
