A strobe light, also known as a stroboscopic lamp, is a device used to produce regular flashes of light. It is one of a number of devices that can be used as a stroboscope. The word "strobe" originated from the Ancient Greek στρόβος, meaning "act of whirling". Strobe lights usually use flashtubes with energy supplied from a capacitor, an energy storage device much like a battery, but capable of charging and releasing energy much faster. The light produced by a strobe light is usually extremely bright, as more energy can be used for each "flash" of light, rather than needing to maintain a continual beam of light (as with a standard light) .

Strobe lights have a variety of uses, including in photography, where they emit a bright burst of light akin to on-camera flash photography. They are also used in the entertainment industry, such as in nightclubs and concerts, to create a strobe effect that can enhance the music and atmosphere. Strobe beacons are used in a variety of industries as an attention-getting device, either to warn of possible hazards or to attract potential customers.

Strobe lights are often used for aircraft anti-collision lighting both on aircraft themselves and also on tall stationary objects, such as television and radio towers. When affixed to vehicles, strobe lights are often referred to as "strobe emergency lights" or "strobe warning lights" and can help to alert other road users to the presence of the vehicle, which is useful in emergency situations.
