The United States Army Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets, is divided into five active duty and two Army National Guard Special Forces groups, each with a specific regional focus. The seven Special Forces groups are:
- 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne)
- 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne)
- 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne)
- 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne)
- 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne)
- 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) (National Guard)
- 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne) (National Guard)
The 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) is responsible for the land mass of Latin America south of Mexico, the waters adjacent to Central and South America, the Caribbean Sea, its 13 island nations, European and U.S. territories, the Gulf of Mexico, and a portion of the Atlantic Ocean. It encompasses 32 countries and covers about 15.6 million square miles. The 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) is designed to deploy and execute nine doctrinal missions, including coalition warfare support, combat search and rescue, security assistance, peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, counter-mine and counter-drug operations, and more.
