Consumer health has three main components: health information, health products, and health services.
-
Health information: This includes information and services that have a direct effect on health. It is designed to be educational and can help individuals make decisions about health-related behavior and medical treatments. Health information is intended for potential or current users of medical services and may include resources about prevention, self-care and wellness, diseases and conditions, treatment, health care options, and more.
-
Health products: These are items that we consume to improve our well-being, such as medicine, food, clothes, furniture, electronics, and other substances, materials, or equipment that consumers buy and use to maintain their health and treat diseases. Examples of health products include foods, eyeglasses, medicines, cosmetics, and appliances.
-
Health services: This is connected to health care, which is usually offered by health care providers. Health services include medical consultation, using the telephone, using electricity, payment for transportation, payment for a haircut, and other services that help consumers maintain their health and treat diseases.
Consumer health is not just about buying health products and services. It is also about making decisions and having a clear and deeper understanding to make wise choices.
