The EMAs refer to the MTV Europe Music Awards, which are awards presented by Paramount International Networks to honor artists and music in pop culture. The awards were originally conceived as an alternative to the MTV Video Music Awards, which are hosted annually in the United States. The Europe Music Awards are held every year in a different country, and they have been hosted mostly in the United Kingdom. The 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards were planned to take place on November 5, 2023, at the Paris Nord Villepinte in Paris, France. However, the ceremony was canceled on October 19, 2023, due to the 2023 Israel–Hamas war and Frances terrorism high alert and airport security threats. This was the first time that an EMAs was canceled in its history. Despite this, the voting remains open, and the winning artists will receive their awards at a later date. It is worth noting that the term EMAS can also refer to the Engineered Material Arresting System, which is a technology used to stop an aircraft that overruns the runway.
