The Executive Branch of the Philippine government is composed of the President and the Vice President, who are elected by direct popular vote and serve a term of six years. The President is the Head of State and Head of Government, and functions as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. As chief executive, the President exercises control over all the executive departments, bureaus, and offices. The President has the mandate of control over all the executive departments, bureaus, and offices, including restructuring, reconfiguring, and appointments of their respective officials. The Administrative Code also provides for the President to be responsible for the strict implementation of laws by these offices. The Executive Branch is responsible for supervising local governments in the Philippines, despite their autonomous status as provided by Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991. The Cabinet, which is composed of the heads of the executive departments, is appointed by the President subject to the approval of the Commission on Appointments. The Executive Branch is the largest component of the Philippine governments bureaucracy.
