As of January 1st, 2018, there are eight paid public holidays in New Brunswick. These are:

  • New Years Day
  • Family Day (3rd Monday in February)
  • Good Friday
  • Canada Day
  • New Brunswick Day (1st Monday in August)
  • Labour Day
  • Remembrance Day
  • Christmas Day

To qualify for a paid public holiday, an employee must have been employed by their employer for at least 90 days. If an employee qualifies and works on the public holiday, they must receive their regular days pay plus one and one-half times their regular wage rate for the hours worked on that day. If an employee qualifies and does not work on the public holiday, they must receive their regular days pay for that day. When the holiday falls on a non-working day or during an employees vacation, the employee who qualifies must receive another working day off with pay in lieu of the holiday, or if the employee agrees, a regular days pay for that day.
