According to recent polls, a majority of people in Australia are intending to vote no in the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum. The downward trend in support for the referendum has slowed in the past couple of months, but the yes side has an estimated 41.6% support nationally and is trailing in every state except Tasmania. Support for the referendum has declined more than 20 points since August last year, and a lot of "soft" yes and no voters have drifted to the no camp. Some 40% of respondents in recent Essential polls have been "hard no," about double what it was in February, while about 30% are "hard yes," which has remained roughly constant. The final YouGov poll published on Thursday shows that those opposed to the proposal lead the "Yes" camp by 56% to 38%, with 6% of those polled undecided. The referendum needs a double majority to succeed, which means a majority of voters to vote yes nationally, and it requires a majority in a majority of states, so four out of the six states must have a majority yes vote.
