The products of one turn of the citric acid cycle are:

  • 3 molecules of NADH
  • 1 molecule of FADH2
  • 1 molecule of GTP (or ATP)
  • 2 molecules of CO2
  • Regeneration of one molecule of oxaloacetate

This cycle takes in one acetyl-CoA and by the end completes the oxidation process generating these energy-carrying molecules and carbon dioxide molecules, while regenerating oxaloacetate for the next cycle turn. The NADH and FADH2 produced go on to participate in oxidative phosphorylation where further ATP is generated. Two CO2 molecules are released as waste products in this process.
