The Voice to Parliament referendum was defeated, with a "no" majority called by the ABC in at least four states. The referendum failed to receive a majority of votes across the country, falling short with a projected percentage of 55% . The defeat was declared quite early in the evening, with ABC analysts Antony Green and Casey Briggs calling the result at 7:25 pm AEDT. Tasmania was the first to be declared as a No state, followed by New South Wales and South Australia. The ballots are still being counted, but a small number of electorates, mainly in inner cities, are projected to have voted Yes. The federal government supplied $364 million in the most recent budget to deliver the referendum. There will be no change to the constitution, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made a speech after the referendum defeat, saying the result was "not the end of reconciliation".
