Dehydration occurs when the body loses more fluid than it takes in, and it can lead to serious health problems if left untreated. Some of the early warning signs of dehydration include:
- Thirst
- Dark yellow urine
- Dry mouth, lips, and eyes
- Headache
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Tiredness or fatigue
- Dry or cool skin
- Muscle cramps
- Few or no tears when crying
- Sunken eyes
- Sunken soft spot on top of the skull (in infants)
Symptoms of severe dehydration include:
- Not peeing or having very dark yellow urine
- Very dry skin
- Feeling dizzy or lightheaded
- Rapid heartbeat or breathing
- Sunken eyes
- Sleepiness, lack of energy, confusion, or irritability
- Fainting
If you experience any symptoms of dehydration, its important to move to a cool place, loosen any tight clothing, and drink small amounts of cool water often. If your symptoms dont improve, seek medical advice. Babies, children, and older adults are more at risk of dehydration.
