For example, you can make a rudimentary homemade mosquito trap by combining water and sugar, and placing the mixture inside a cut bottle. As the mosquitoes fly inside to reach the sugary sweet liquid, they will fly in and drown in the sticky water. You can also add activated yeast mixed with sugar to lure mosquitoes by creating carbon dioxide gas, mimicking the same emissions we exhale when we breathe.

• Fan traps: Mosquitoes are weak fliers, and any significant wind can prevent them from getting to you. An overhead fan on a porch or a well-placed box fan that blows away from the area you are trying to protect can help reduce mosquito bites. If mosquitoes reach the back of the fan, the air will draw them in and subsequently trap them.

• Stagnant water: Mosquitoes are attracted to stagnant water, which can be used to your advantage when presented correctly. Soaps and detergents are surfactants, which reduces the surface tension of the water. When mosquitoes try to land on the surface of the water to lay their eggs, they wont be able to stay afloat and end up drowning.

• Insecticides: Insecticides can be used to kill mosquitoes. However, it is important to use them safely and according to the instructions on the label.
