The United Auto Workers (UAW) union is currently on strike against the Big Three automakers: General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis. The strike began on September 15, 2023, after the unions four-year contracts with the automakers expired. As of October 19, 2023, another 16,600 Ford employees are on strike at three assembly plants, including Kentucky Truck, the companys largest plant worldwide. The UAW has been expanding the strike in waves, with additional workers joining the strike at different times. The union has also been changing tactics, calling on workers at specific plants to walk off the job when the automakers decline to offer better contracts. As of October 13, 2023, UAW President Shawn Fain announced that the union would not expand the strike immediately against the Big Three automakers, but left open the possibility that it could do so at any time. The UAW has made clear that the automakers offers still fall short of the unions demands, and negotiations are ongoing.
