The beach scenes in Jaws were filmed primarily at Joseph Sylvia State Beach, which is located just a few miles northwest of Edgartown on Marthas Vineyard. This beach is one of the largest on the island and is separated from the rest of the island by Sengekontackit Pond, a serene inlet popular for kayaking and clamming. The famous shark attack scene at the beach was also filmed here. Additionally, the iconic opening scene of the beach attack at night, where Chrissie Watkins is killed by the great white, was filmed at Edgartown South Beach, which is also on Marthas Vineyard.
