Navratri is a Hindu festival that is celebrated twice a year with great fervor across the country. During Navratri, most people observe fasts and worship the different avatars of Goddess Durga for nine days. Fasting is a way to pay gratitude to the Goddess, and it is believed that it helps in detoxifying the body and mind. Here is a list of foods that can be eaten during Navratri fast:
- Sabudana Khichdi
- Kuttu Ka Dosa
- Singhare ke Atte ka Samosa
- Aloo ki Kadhi
- Low Fat Makhana Kheer
- Banana Walnut Lassi
- Fruits like pears, apples, muskmelon, and bananas
During Navratri, people avoid eating meat, whole grains, alcohol, onion, garlic, and other foods that attract negative energies and should be avoided during a seasonal change as our bodies tend to have low immunity around this time. However, there is no approved or written norm on what all to eat and what to avoid. People follow as per their own beliefs, borrowed from their parents or community. The idea behind fasting is to consume healthy foods with healthy thoughts, detox your mind and your body, and reinforce your faith in the Almighty.
