During Navratri fasting, people abstain from consuming non-vegetarian food, alcohol, wheat, rice, processed salt, and most vegetables like brinjal, okra, and mushroom. Instead, they consume sattvik and vrat-friendly foods like ragi, samak chawal, singhara atta, sabudana, farali flour, amaranth, and fruits like banana, apple, and oranges. People can have sendha namak instead of regular processed salt. There are two ways to fast: Falahar Vrat (only fruits, dry fruits, milk, coconut, and no salt) and Salt Diet (special flours, limited spices, few vegetables, and no processed and refined food items) . Some examples of food items that people can consume during Navratri fasting include Sabudana Khichdi, fruit chaat, kheer, and kuttu ki poori. It is recommended to eat basic things like boiled potatoes, dry fruit, and fruits instead of cuisines. People should avoid fancy food items like phalahari chaat and consume easily digestible and filling food items that do not lead to constipation or diarrhea.
