According to multiple sources, the fire at Luton Airports Terminal 2 car park was caused by a diesel-powered vehicle that had recently arrived at the airport. The fire quickly spread and eventually damaged up to 1,500 cars, causing the newly-built car park building to partially collapse. Over 100 firefighters and 15 fire appliances were used to extinguish the fire, which was eventually put out the next morning. The fire caused significant travel disruption, with all flights suspended until 3 pm on the day of the fire and at least 140 flights cancelled since the fire started. One member of the public and six firefighters suffered smoke inhalation, but there were no reports of any fatalities.
