According to multiple sources, the cause of the fire at Luton Airports Terminal 2 car park was a diesel-powered vehicle that had just arrived at the car park. The fire quickly spread and damaged up to 1,500 cars, causing the newly-built car park building to partially collapse. Over 100 firefighters and 15 fire appliances were used to extinguish the fire, which was eventually put out the next morning. The airport suspended all flights until 3 pm on the day of the fire, causing travel chaos for thousands of passengers. Four firefighters and a member of airport staff were taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, and another firefighter was treated at the scene.
