According to multiple sources, the fire at Luton Airport was caused by a diesel-powered vehicle that had recently arrived at the airport and was parked in the multi-storey car park. The fire quickly spread and caused significant damage to the car park, with up to 1,500 vehicles potentially affected. Over 100 firefighters and 15 fire appliances were used to extinguish the blaze, which caused the partial collapse of the newly-built car park building at Terminal 2. The airport suspended all flights until 3pm on the day of the fire, causing disruption for around 25,000 passengers.
