According to Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, the cause of the fire at Luton Airport car park was a diesel car. The fire started on the third floor of the Terminal Car Park 2 and quickly spread to multiple floors, causing the partial collapse of the newly-built car park building. The fire was put out by Wednesday morning, but hundreds of cars were damaged. There is no suggestion that the blaze was started intentionally. The airport was closed for most of Wednesday following the blaze, with all outbound flights suspended, inbound flights diverted, and passengers advised not to travel to the airport.
