Enuresis, or the repeated inability to control urination, has been documented as an occurrence in members of the military, including soldiers. Soldiers in World War II, for example, were known to experience enuresis due to the stress and trauma they experienced, as well as the unhealthy conditions and lack of supplies in the Pacific Theater. In particular, soldiers who were forced to sleep in their clothes due to continuous shelling by the enemy were at risk of developing fungal infections like jungle rot, which could lead to enuresis. Additionally, soldiers who witnessed violent deaths and endured relentless rain during battles were also at risk of developing enuresis due to the traumatic experiences they went through. A study found that prior military exposure was associated with moderate/severe urinary incontinence in American men 55 years old or younger, even after controlling for known risk factors. Therefore, it appears that the main causes of enuresis in soldiers are stress, trauma, and unhealthy conditions.
