Labia minora hypertrophy is a common condition where the labia minora (inner lips) protrude out of the labia majora (outer lips) . It is a usual growth and doesnt have any specific cause. The width and length of the inner lips may vary in different women, and there are no standard measurements for the size of the labia minora because there can be a lot of different sizes. The condition is not caused by masturbation or sexually transmitted infections. Some possible causes of labia minora hypertrophy include genetics, hormonal reasons, aging, and active cycling. Most women with labia minora hypertrophy will not have any additional symptoms or side effects, but some may experience symptoms such as irritation or chaffing, infection due to chaffing and accumulation of secretion, trouble cleaning the labia well, pain with activities and sports, and distress. Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to alter the shape and size of the labia minora, but it is typically done for cosmetic reasons.
