Stress overload occurs when there is excessive stress or demands to be met, and it can lead to physical and mental illness. While some stress can be healthy and valuable, excessive stress can cause emotional, behavioral, physical, and cognitive changes. Here are some of the things that can cause stress overload if they continue for a long time:
- Being bullied or exposed to violence or injury
- Relationship stress, family conflicts, or the heavy emotions that can accompany a broken heart or the death of a loved one
- Ongoing work overload, conflicts with colleagues, or job dissatisfaction
- Crammed schedules, not having enough time to rest and relax, and always being on the go
- Being abused, injured, or subjected to violence
- Conflicts in families, relationships, or immense grief or loss
Stress means different things to different people, and what causes stress in one person may be of little concern to another. Finally, what causes stress depends, at least in part, on your perception of it. Something thats stressful to you may not faze someone else; they may even enjoy it.
