Emmitt Smith played college football for the University of Florida in Gainesville. He played for three years, from 1987 to 1989, and set numerous school rushing records. During his college career, he broke 58 school records and scored 38 touchdowns. He was named the SEC Player of the Year in 1989 and finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting that year. Smith was not initially considered a top prospect by some college recruiting analysts, but he went on to become a star player at Florida and in the NFL.
