Sonia Sotomayor graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University in 1976 and received her Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1979, where she was an editor at the Yale Law Journal. At Yale, she was an editor of the Yale Law Journal and the managing editor of the law school’s journal of international law. Sotomayor was an advocate for the rights of Latino students at both Princeton and Yale Law School, and urged the universities to hire more Latino faculty members.
