To find out your council tax band, you can look it up by the address or postcode of your home on the GOV.UK website if you live in England or Wales, or on the Scottish Assessors website if you live in Scotland. The council tax band is based on the value of your property on 1 April 1991, and there are eight bands in total, each with a different rate of council tax. The bands range from A to H, with A being the lowest and H being the highest. The amount of council tax you pay depends on the band your property is in and the council tax rate set by your local council. If you think your council tax band is wrong, you can challenge it by providing evidence to the Valuation Office Agency.
