South Asia is a subregion of Asia that includes the following eight countries:
- Afghanistan
- Bangladesh
- Bhutan
- India
- Maldives
- Nepal
- Pakistan
- Sri Lanka
The geographical extent of South Asia is not clear-cut, and there is a high degree of variation as to which other countries are included in the region. However, the eight countries listed above are commonly conceptualized as the modern states of South Asia. South Asia borders East Asia to the northeast, Central Asia to the northwest, West Asia to the west, and Southeast Asia to the east.
