As of September 2023, 138 of the 193 member states of the United Nations have recognized the State of Palestine. Among the G20, nine countries (Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Turkey) have recognized Palestine as a state, while ten countries (Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States) have not. Many developing states in Africa and Asia, as well as communist and non-aligned states, recognized the State of Palestine shortly after its declaration in 1988.

It is worth noting that some countries, such as the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, and Canada, support a two-state solution but do not recognize Palestine as a state.
