Christopher Columbus sailed for Spain. He made his transatlantic voyages under the sponsorship of Ferdinand II and Isabella I, the Catholic Monarchs of Aragon, Castile, and Leon in Spain. Columbus left Spain with three ships, the Niña, Pinta, and Santa Maria, in August 1492, and landed in the Americas on October 12 of the same year.
