According to the Gospels, Jesus died on a Friday, a few hours before the Jewish Sabbath was to begin. The exact date of Jesus death is debated, but most scholars put it somewhere between AD 28-33, with the AD 29 date being the most obvious year. The equivalent Jewish date for the death of Jesus is Nisan 14, 3793 anno mundi, which is computed by adding 3761 BC (its proleptic Julian date) to AD 33 and subtracting a year. In John, Jesus died on the Day of Preparation (Nisan 14), the day before the Passover meal, sometime after noon but before sunset that evening. However, the vast majority of scholars subscribe to the view that Jesus died on Friday, the day before the Sabbath, and on the afternoon following the Passover meal. The time of Jesus death is also debated, but most scholars agree that it occurred at about 3 p.m. ("The Ninth Hour") .
