As of October 2023, there are only two Democrats running for president: incumbent President Joe Biden and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. . Biden, who has been in the White House since 2021, faces little opposition in his bid for the Democratic Party nomination in the 2024 election. Kennedy, a lawyer and author, announced his candidacy on April 5, 2023. While there are over 170 candidates who have filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to run for the Democratic nomination in 2024, most of them did not appear on any ballots, raise money, or otherwise attempt to formally run a campaign.
