Chris Brown physically assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, the night before the Grammy Awards. Brown admitted to being unfaithful with a work friend, and Rihanna found out and started hitting him. In retaliation, Brown bit her and left her with a busted lip, a black eye, and bruising on her face. Rihanna got out of the car and started to scream for help, and Brown was later charged with felony assault and making criminal threats. He pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault and was sentenced to five years of probation, one year of domestic violence counseling, and six months of community service. Brown has since had an on-and-off relationship with Rihanna and has collaborated on music with her.
