Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier and convicted sex offender. He was arrested in July 2019 on charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking. Epstein was accused of sexually exploiting and abusing dozens of minor girls at his homes in Manhattan, New York, and Palm Beach, Florida, among other locations. He was said to have abused girls in his homes in both New York and Palm Beach, recruited victims to give him “massages” that quickly turned sexual, and paid his victims hundreds of dollars in cash. Epstein was denied bail and remained in jail until August 10, 2019, when he died by apparent suicide. Epsteins death did not end the investigation into his crimes, and his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested in July 2020 and later found guilty of 5 out of 6 counts. In June 2022, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
