Tay K, whose real name is Taymor McIntyre, is a rapper who was found guilty of murder for his role in a 2016 armed robbery that left one man dead. He was just 16 years old when the incident occurred. Tay-Ks song "The Race," which he released online the same day he was apprehended by United States marshals after three months on the run in 2017, included boasts from the rapper about violent crime and eluding law enforcement. The video, which has been viewed more than 173 million times on YouTube, featured a baby-faced Tay-K posing with a handgun next to his own wanted poster, and caused a stir online for its unabashed muddying of the line between art and life. Tay-K was sentenced to 55 years in prison for murder, 30 years in prison for one count of aggravated robbery, and two additional 13-year prison sentences on two other counts of robbery. He was also fined a total of $21,000. Tay-Ks career as a rapper is far from incidental to the case. The prosecution presented the "Race" video and a printout of its lyrics as evidence along with photos from social media and album covers that show Tay-K with guns. The case against him and his two co-defendants also hinges in part on his lyrics and music videos.
