Here are some reasons that may disqualify you from a military draft:
-
Obesity: Being overweight or obese is a common reason for disqualification from military service.
-
Education: Having a GED instead of a high school diploma can make it more difficult to be accepted into the military.
-
Criminal Records: Having a criminal record can disqualify you from military service.
-
Health Problems: Certain medical conditions, such as gastrointestinal disorders, anemia, and immunodeficiency, can disqualify you from military service.
-
Drugs: Drug use can disqualify you from military service.
-
Failing to Register: Failing to register for the draft or join the military as directed is a felony punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 or a prison term of up to five years.
-
Age: Men between the ages of 18 and 26 are required to register for the draft, but those who are not within this age range are exempt.
-
Disabilities: Men with disabilities that would not qualify for military service are still required to register with Selective Service, but they may be exempt from service in the event of a draft.
-
Conscientious Objection: Men who would be classified as conscientious objectors if they were drafted must register with Selective Service, but they may have the opportunity to file a claim for exemption from military service based upon their religious or moral beliefs.
Its important to note that just because youre registered doesnt mean youll automatically have to serve in the military if a draft is reinstated. If you have a physical or mental condition that keeps you from serving, that will be decided after youre drafted. The same goes for people who are dual nationals. If they decide they dont want to draft certain groups of people for a conflict, theyll determine that after they draft them.
