• Feeling sick: If you have a cold, flu, or COVID-19, you should refrain from donating plasma until you have recovered.

• Tattoos: Some plasma collection facilities may defer you from donating if you have recently gotten a tattoo.

• Age: You must be at least 18 years old to donate plasma.

• Medications: Certain medications may temporarily or permanently prevent you from donating plasma.

• History of anemia: If you have a history of anemia, you may not be eligible to donate plasma.

• Surgery: If you have had surgery recently, you may need to wait a certain amount of time before donating plasma.

• Very small veins or difficult blood draws: If you have very small veins or have had difficulty with blood draws in the past, you may not be eligible to donate plasma.

• Phobia of needles and/or blood: If you have a phobia of needles or blood, you may not be eligible to donate plasma.

• Passed out during blood draw or blood/plasma donation: If you have passed out during a blood draw or blood/plasma donation in the past, you may not be eligible to donate plasma.

• Been deferred as a donor by another blood or plasma donation center: If you have been deferred as a donor by another blood or plasma donation center, you may not be eligible to donate plasma.

• Been pregnant in the last 6 weeks or trying to get pregnant: If you have been pregnant in the last 6 weeks or are trying to get pregnant, you may not be eligible to donate plasma.

• Weigh less than 110 pounds: You must weigh at least 110 pounds to donate plasma.

• HIV/AIDS: You cannot donate plasma if you have HIV or AIDS.

• Cancer: You cannot donate plasma if you have any active cancer diagnoses.

• Heart disease: Significant heart conditions like heart failure, congenital heart defects, and history of heart attack will disqualify you from donating plasma.

• High blood pressure: If your blood pressure exceeds 180/110 mmHg, it is unsafe for you to donate plasma.

It is important to note that donor eligibility is at the sole discretion of the plasma collection facility, and some experiences, health conditions, or medications may temporarily or permanently prevent persons from donating plasma.
