To change your address on your license in New York, you can follow these steps:
- Update your address within 10 days of moving or if there is an error.
- You can write your new address on the back of your driver license, non-driver ID card, or learner permit, and on the front of the registration document. Carefully draw lines through the old address.
- You can also complete the driver’s license change of address request online through the New York DMV Change of Address System. Login to your my NY.gov ID to access your MYDMV account. Fill in your credentials and follow through the process to update your address.
- You can update your address in person by visiting the nearest DMV office. Print and fill out the Change of Address form (Form MV-232) and bring it along with the required documents. Determine if you want to replace or renew your license and pay the fees required for the process.
- If you do not want to get a new license, permit, non-driver ID card, or registration document, you can write your new address on your current regular or enhanced NYS license, permit, or non-driver ID card and on your NYS registration document. If you request an enhanced license, permit, or ID card, your residence address will be shown on your document and your document will be mailed to your mailing address. If you request a regular license, permit, or ID card, your mailing address will be shown on your document.
It is important to note that you must submit a copy (front and back) of your current valid New York State Driver License/Permit/Non-driver ID or Military ID with your application.
