To get license plates in Ohio, you will need to follow the steps below:

1. Visit your nearest deputy registrar agency (optional: make an appointment!)
2. Submit the required documents & ID
3. Submit payment
4. Receive a temporary registration permit and registration stickers
5. Receive your new Ohio license plates via U.S. mail (if applicable)

The following documents are required for registration:

• Ohio Certificate of Title or Memorandum of Title
• Ohio driver license, Ohio state ID or proof of Social Security number
• Affidavit for Registration (form BMV 5712)
• Valid insurance certificate
• Owner’s tax ID or proof of Social Security number
• Verbal declaration of weight
• If over 55,000 lbs., Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax form (form 2290)
• Declaration of Knowledge (form PUC 3422)
• If 4,001 lbs. or more, Ohio Certificate of Title or Memorandum of Title

In addition, you will need to pay the following fees:

• $34.50 registration fee
