Libertarians believe in minimizing government intervention in peoples economic choices to promote freedom and prosperity. They are often skeptical of or opposed to authority, state power, warfare, militarism, and nationalism. Libertarians support a foreign policy of non-interventionism and legalization of victimless crimes such as the use of marijuana while opposing high levels of taxation and government spending on health, welfare, and education. They believe that all people are born with certain inherent rights and reject the idea that a natural right can ever impose an obligation. Libertarians hold personal freedom as the highest value and believe that there should be restrictions on what authorities and responsibilities a state can have over its people. They are aggressively individualist and believe that the government should regulate both social and economic issues very little. In politics, liberty is the most important value for libertarians. Libertarianism is typically taken to be a variety of liberal political theory, though some do contest this.
