Mormons believe that heaven is an actual physical location where God and Jesus currently reside, and that everyone who has lived will have the chance to go there. They believe that our existence is analogous to a three-part play that consists of a premortal existence, a mortal life on earth of learning, testing, and growth, and a postmortal existence as resurrected beings. According to Latter-day Saint scripture, there are three corresponding states of postmortal existence known as the celestial kingdom, the terrestrial kingdom, and the telestial kingdom, with the highest state being the celestial kingdom where God is. Mormons believe that after death, the spirit goes either to a "paradise" or a "prison" to await judgment, and that everyone will be resurrected. They also believe that those who were obedient to Gods commandments will live in the highest level of heaven with God and their families. Mormons have many unique beliefs about heaven, but their views on heaven are centered around the idea of exaltation and eternal progression, where mortals themselves may become gods and goddesses in the afterlife, be rulers of their own heavenly kingdoms, have spirit children, and increase in power and glory forever.
