Nursing assistants, also known as certified nursing assistants (CNAs), provide basic care and support for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse or other medical professional. They work directly with patients and nurses, helping with the many physical and complex tasks for patient care. Some of their responsibilities include:

• Cleaning and bathing patients
• Helping patients use the bathroom
• Turning or moving patients
• Gathering medical supplies
• Checking and monitoring patients vital signs
• Answering calls from patients and making sure theyre as comfortable as possible
• Feeding patients
• Cleaning medical supplies and equipment

Nursing assistants can be found in nursing care facilities, assisted living centers, hospitals, home healthcare agencies, continuing care retirement communities, and hospices. They are physically active and may need to help lift or move patients. Nursing assistants often need to complete a state-approved education program and pass their states competency exam to become licensed or certified. The median annual wage for nursing assistants was $35,760 in May 2022.
