Polarized sunglasses have a special coating on their lenses that blocks out glare from the sun, making colors and details appear sharper than when wearing non-polarized sunglasses. The lenses are treated with a chemical filter that blocks horizontal light waves, which are responsible for glare, while allowing vertical light waves to pass through. This filtering reduces glare and reflection, increases contrast, and minimizes color distortion, resulting in clearer vision, especially in bright light. Polarized sunglasses are particularly useful for outdoor activities involving water, such as fishing, sailing, and water-skiing, as well as for driving and exercising outside. They can also reduce eye strain and fatigue caused by glare. However, polarized lenses may make it difficult to see certain digital screens, such as those on smartphones and GPS devices, and they may not be available for regular reading glasses. Polarized lenses do not provide more protection against UV radiation than non-polarized lenses.
