Minnesota Vikings fans chant "Skol!" during games. The chant was introduced around the time the team was founded in 1961 and was part of their fight song. "Skol" is a derivative of the Swedish/Danish/Norwegian word "skål," which means "cheers". At various points during the game, Viking fans raise their hands and after two beats of a drum, they clap in time and yell, "Skol!" The drum beats increase in tempo until the applause is near-constant. The chant was inspired by the "Viking war chant" made famous by supporters of the Iceland national football team during their run to the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2016. Before games at the U.S. Bank Stadium, the crowd joins in with a chanting of “skol”, led by a drummer. The chant has become a unifying anthem for fans and is used to celebrate when the Vikings score or win.
