A wine expert is called a sommelier. A sommelier is a trained and knowledgeable wine professional who specializes in all aspects of wine service as well as wine and food pairing. They work in fine restaurants and may be responsible for developing wine lists, delivering wine service, and training other restaurant staff. They also pair and suggest wines that will best complement each particular food menu item, which requires a deep knowledge of how food and wine work in harmony. A sommelier may also be responsible for storing wines in optimal conditions, rotating stock, and ensuring accurate pricing. They work on the floor of the restaurant and are in direct contact with restaurant patrons, and they have a responsibility to work within the taste preference and budget parameters of the patron.
