A chorus pedal is an effect that is used to make one instrument sound like more than one is playing. It combines the original sound with a duplicate modulating signal to create the sound of multiple instruments playing simultaneously. The signal is duplicated and the pitch changes slightly, and the signal is often also slightly delayed and then mixed back into the original guitar signal. The result sounds like there are multiples of the original sound source, much like singing in a choir or chorus. The chorus effect occurs when different sounds of approximately the same time and similar pitches come together and sound as one. The general rule is to connect the chorus pedal after overdrives to create the clearest sound. Chorus, when used conservatively, can bring some shimmer and life to a clean guitar sound and give just that extra bit of "pitchiness".
