HBCU stands for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. These are institutions of higher education in the United States that were established before 1964 with the primary mission of educating Black Americans. HBCUs were founded to provide educational opportunities to African Americans who were often denied access to other colleges and universities during segregation and have played a crucial role in supporting Black students academically and professionally.
