IEP stands for Individualized Education Program. It is a written statement that outlines the plan to provide a student with a disability with a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) . The IEP is developed, reviewed, and revised by a Committee on Special Education, Subcommittee on Special Education, or Committee on Preschool Special Education. The IEP is the cornerstone of the special education process for each individual student with a disability. It is a map that lays out the program of special education instruction, supports, and services kids need to make progress and thrive in school. The IEP includes information about the student, their unique strengths and needs, and the appropriate special education supports and services that will allow them to access, participate, and progress in the general education curriculum.
